Case Study: Sewage Treatment Plant at Provanstan Farm
Provanston Farm new sewage treatment plant installation
We were delighted to carry out a new sewage treatment plant installation at Provanston Farm near Fintry, Scotland, supporting the owners as they built new accommodation on their historic property. Provanston Farm is over 250 years old. Like many rural properties in Scotland, is not connected to the mains drainage system, making a private wastewater solution essential.

The owners of Provanston Farm are in the process of constructing a new dwelling on the property, so of course it needs to be fully plumbed in before anyone can live there. We were asked to fit a brand new modern sewage treatment plant system on-site. You can read more about sewage treatment plants here, but briefly, they offer a more environmentally friendly solution to waste problems than septic tanks. This is because they actually treat the wastewater before releasing it back into the water system. As a result, the wastewater is pretty clean already before it finds its way back to nature. This makes them a super septic tank alternative.

Site assessment & excavation
Because this was a brand-new sewage treatment system, we began with a full site assessment. This included identifying the best tank location, checking ground conditions and ensuring access to a reliable power supply. Doing so is essential for sewage treatment plants to operate efficiently.
Once the location was agreed, our experienced team began excavation. Using our own heavy machinery, we completed the work efficiently while keeping disruption on-site to a minimum.

Of course, it’s quite a big job but our experienced professionals are always on hand to answer any queries and ease any worries.
The road down to Provanston Farm is a little tight, but this doesn’t put us off! Although our trucks and diggers are large, they are also surprisingly nimble. So if you have concerns about how we could get to your property down a narrow lane or rocky path, then just give us a shout to chat about it. Sewage systems for rural properties are our speciality!

Installing the tank
The full concrete sewage treatment plant installation took approximately two and a half days from start to finish. We exclusively install concrete tanks due to their strength, durability and long service life, providing excellent long-term value for our customers.
The installation included connecting the tank to the property’s plumbing and installing safe electrical cabling so the system will operate immediately once the new dwelling is occupied. All pipework and cabling were neatly laid within a single trench for a clean, professional finish.

Another fine job!
This project ran smoothly from start to finish, helped by the owners contacting us early in the build process. Early planning allowed us to confirm ground suitability and schedule the installation efficiently.
“We knew Septic Tank Services would do a fantastic job. They were confident, professional and very knowledgeable! Everything went without a hitch, and they were friendly on-site, answering all my questions (and I had a lot!). I’m so happy with their work and would recommend them wholeheartedly.”
Jo – client.
Sewage treatment plants don’t need emptying out as much as septic tanks – but they still need maintenance. We look forward to supplying this service to Provanston Farm, and wish them many years of happy sewage treatment!
